No other technology has come as close to transforming humanity as artificial intelligence. Many may not agree with this statement. After all, what they see is definitely a technological feat but not something that has the capability to transform humanity. However, this is the perception we want to change. The fact is that the path of development that artificial intelligence technologies have taken in the last decade, and if we include some of the tangential paths that this technology can take, can help us build capabilities that we could not imagine a couple of decades ago. The fact is that we are only scratching the surface with the capabilities that we currently see.
This is not the first time that the field of AI has seen this kind of hype. It should be obvious for the readers to interpret that the previous hype cycles did not materialize. The fact is that there has been two mega periods in the history of technology where AI hype peaked and then crashed. Those periods are popularly referred to as AI winters in the hallways of technological history. Much has changed in the world of technology since these last two AI winters. However, many still fear that this AI hype may lead to another AI winter. Any organization that offers a technology product that leverages AI, is hence burdened to ensure that the world of technology does not see a third AI winter.
My this report contains some of my perspectives around how we can avoid walking into a third AI winter. We have all the capabilities this time to turn visions into reality. However, those technological capabilities alone will not be sufficient. Those offering AI products and services urgently need to push to industrialize the capabilities beyond the capabilities that the world has been seeing for almost half a decade now. The report identifies the areas in which massive push needs to be made and offers some suggestions.
