YRC’s bankruptcy resulted from many years of struggle on multiple fronts.
One of them was massive customer exodus.
If you have been a YRC customer, you know they were infamous for being reliably unreliable.
And it kept getting worse during the last decade.
While YRC invested in digital, cloud, supply chain visibility, and other jazz continuously.
While YRC invested in real-time capabilities to track their shipments, the capability did nilch to improve reliability.
Almost four years ago, in an interview to USA Today network, I highlighted that supply chain visibility, real time or not, is a foundational component, but means nothing in itself.
I believe that supply chain visibility and solutions are being overhyped, with promises that they cannot deliver.
This does not mean that off-the-shelf solutions are not useful.
But they only address one of the three latencies that we want to eliminate.
Rest all other jazz, integrations, network and all may or may not be useful to everyone.
We discuss this specific topic in this week’s episode of “Think About It”.
